From March 1, 2024: Extended trial period driving test cat. B

From March 1, 2024, there will be a new rule that you must have at least 5 months of experience on public roads before you are eligible to take your practical exam. However, if you complete your practical exam before March 1, 2024, the previous 3-month practice period will remain in effect.

It is important to note that if you start practicing between October 1 and November 29, 2023, you will enter a transition situation:
- You still have the option to take your practical exam before March 1, 2024, after a 3-month practice period.
- However, if you decide to take your exam on or after March 1, you will need to wait until you have practiced for 5 months before you are eligible to take the practical exam.

Let's clarify this with an example: Suppose you apply for your provisional driving license at the town hall on Monday, November 6, 2023. Your practice period starts the following day, on Tuesday, November 7. If you plan to take your practical exam on February 15, 2024, this is possible because you will have practiced for more than 3 months.

However, if you want to schedule your practical exam on March 15, 2024, this is not possible. You must have practiced for at least 5 months by then. After March 1, 2024, the earliest possible time to take your practical exam would be on April 7, 2024, which corresponds to 5 months after the start of your practice period on November 7, 2023.
